Adult Stroke Technique Series, Levels 1 & 2

No matter your skill level, you can improve your efficiency, enjoyment, & speed by focusing on technique, drills, & other skills. Get ready for the Tenderfoot Triathlon, or just gain fitness swimming expertise with these 4 lesson series.

 LEVEL 1 will work on proper form and  technique for freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, dolphin kick, streamlines & open turns off the walls. For beginner-intermediate swimmers who would like to learn the strokes, improve their technique, or add variety to their workouts by learning new drills. Swimmers should be able to swim at least 200 meters comfortably.

LEVEL 2 is for the more advanced swimmer looking to refine stroke technique, master flip turns, interval training, and maximize stroke efficiency. For those who have completed LEVEL 1 &/or who can swim 1500 meters continuously.

Mondays, June 4th – 25th
5:30 – 6:30 pm (LEVEL 1) & 6:30 – 7:30 pm
(LEVEL 2)
$30 for each 4 lesson series.

Salida Community Dances

Come one, come all! A caller, working with a group of live musicians, guides new and experienced dancers of all ages through dances in circle, square and long line formations. We change partners often, so you don’t have to bring your own to stomp your feet to traditional old-time & Irish fiddle tunes. Bring a yummy treat for the dessert potluck. No experience needed. Free lesson at 7:00, dance starts at 7:30. Everyone welcome!

Adult Monarch Crest Scenic Tram Trip

Gain access to 360º views from the top of the Continental Divide via the Monarch Crest Scenic Tram. On a clear day, one can see over 100 miles in each direction & wildlife viewing opportunities abound! Join this trip up the pass for a picnic at 12,000 feet and learn about the region’s geography and wildlife —without having to hike! Bring good walking shoes, warm layers, your camera, lunch, and water.

Adult Bat Cave Trip

The Orient Mine in the San Luis Valley is home to the largest bachelor colony of Mexican free-tail bats in North America. Around sunset each evening during the summer, the bats make a mass exit from the cave, stretching like a river down the valley and treating visitors to one of the most spectacular wildlife events in the valley. The trip begins at Valley View Hot Springs, so please be aware that we will hike past this clothing-optional area, up 700 feet of elevation gain, for 45 minutes to an hour. Bring good walking shoes, warm layers, a flashlight, your camera, and water.

Line Dancing

Betty Scofield will back again to teach this terrific class. Betty specializes in showing a wide range of people with varying ability levels how to have fun on the dance floor. No matter when you start, you’ll catch up to what has been taught in no time. This is a great opportunity to get out and move to music while getting exercise at the same time.

Triathlon Swim/Bike Transition Clinic

Want to improve your time in a triathlon without actually swimming, biking or running faster?  With a few tips, you can cut down on your time spent in the transition area & be better prepared for your next leg of the triathlon. This clinic will focus on triathlon transitions in general and the Tenderfoot Mountain Triathlon in particular.  If you are new to triathlons or are more experienced but would like an evening to focus on smooth transitions, this clinic is for you!
