The Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center will close for a two month period in the fall to complete a much needed maintenance project. The projected dates of this closure are September 15 – November 8. The purpose of this project is to address humidity issues and make repairs to the clearstory, windows and the make-up air unit in order to provide a more comfortable atmosphere and prolong the life of the building, which was built in 1937. Local company Diesslin Structures, Inc (DSI) has been contracted to complete this work.
Temperature control and humidity have been problems at the Aquatic Center for years, and a project of this magnitude was deemed essential in order to protect the pool building cavity. Diesslin Structures Inc., has assembled a team of experts in indoor pool design and mechanical design who will evaluate the current system and propose solutions to address the issues. DSI will manage the team and the Salida Hot Springs Pool project.
Staff at the Aquatic Center understand that a closure of this length is difficult on the community, and are taking steps to address this closure for our many users. All passes will be frozen for the length of the closure, and staff are working with Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort to offer classes and specials during this time. Staff are also working on expanding land based fitness programs for our many patrons who use the pool as a means of achieving their exercise and fitness goals.
This closure will not affect most programs with the Salida Recreation Department, which plans to continue offering fall programs for participants of a wide variety of ages and interests. It will also not affect park rentals. Staff will begin taking park rentals for 2015 on October 1.
Our website will be updated before and during the closure with more specific plans for this project, a timeline for completion and pictures and progress updates.
