Woah, lots of fun at Riverside this week!

Riverside Park will host several events hosted by Salida Recreation this week and every week during the summer. The park is a vital part of our community and brings together many people for diverse events.

Summer linedancing lessons have begun in the Scout Hut. Returning instructor Betty Scofield leads these great classes for all skill levels on Thursday mornings. There is an intermediate session 9:30 – 11:00 am, and a beginner session 11:00 am – noon. The cost is $4 for one or both sessions. No preregistration or experience is required. Lessons will be held until August 28, except July 10.

Got beats? This Thursday and Friday, the Salida Recreation department is happy to host Scottie Skinz, a drum circle facilitator.

On Thursday, please come between 5 and 6 pm to play around with rhythms. Drums are provided. There is no fee to participate but a donation to the Salida Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund is encouraged.

Don’t forget to pack your picnic—free summer concert #2 will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. This week’s performer will be Wonderlic. Wonderlic, a Denver band, features mandolin, guitar, drums and bass. This will be the second in the series of seven free concerts, “Thursdays at 6”, sponsored by the Go To Guide and hosted by Salida Recreation.

Friday morning promises to be a great morning in Riverside Park. Scottie Skinz will again set up his drums for our preschool program, Rowdy at Riverside. Kids will explore rhythms and beats, plus we’ll have other musical activities for your little one. The fee for Rowdy is $1 for kids under 2, $3 for kids 2+, and $5 to leave your child unattended. No preregistration is required.

Rowdy is held weekly on Fridays, from 9:00 – 10:30 am near the Scout Hut. However, there will be no Rowdy next Friday because we will be participating in the fourth of July celebration sponsored by the Salida Business Alliance. Come join us for family games in Riverside from 12:30 – 2:00 pm!

Need a boost? Try a quick and hearty workout at our Riverside Bootcamp. Instructor Amanda Wright will lead you through boot-camp style exercises using the features of the park. All you need is 45 minutes! Riverside Bootcamp is $10 per session and meets near the F St bridge every Friday through August 1 (except July 4) from 9:15 – 10:00 am. Parents can drop their kids off at Rowdy at Riverside to free up some time to join the fun!

Hurray for summer and hurray for beautiful public parks!
