Travelogues Presented by Salida Recreation

Three reasons we LOVE Salida Recreation’s Travelogue Series! First: It is a great way to see others’ recreation related vacations and adventures without ever having to leave Salida.  Second: It is a great way for those that do the traveling to share their experiences with their community and have bragging rights.  And last but not least: Travelogues are a great way to get travel tips and ideas for YOUR next recreation vacation.

We’ve had presentations featuring recreation vacations from all over the world including Italy, The Grand Canyon, Africa, and Iceland. These travel adventures have been by plane, train, boat, foot, motorcycle, and bicycle. We have heard about treks to faraway mountains across the globe and hikes to the tops of 14ers in our own backyard.

All travelogue presentations, unless otherwise specified, take place:

Cycling on the Silk Road, presented by Karen Karnuta

Join Salida Recreation at the Salida Steamplant, Wednesday, April 26 from 7-8:30pm, doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5/person and a cash bar is available with beer, wine and soft drinks.  The April travelogue features Karen Karnuta and her experience cycling the Silk Road from Europe to Asia.  Learning about the historical period along this route when dangerous trips across Central Asia brought treasures both East and West led Karen to bicycling across the Karakoram Range, the far west of China and the high steppes of Kyrgyzstan. The scenic beauty, history and modern culture of the varied people along the route made for an incredible and unique trip.

We are still looking for a presenter for May 2017.  After May, we will take a break for the summer and resume with our special bike-related Travelogue Thursday, September 14, 2017 for Salida BikeFest.
