Three reasons we LOVE Salida Recreation’s Travelogue Series!
First: It is a great way to see others’ recreation related vacations and adventures without ever having to leave Salida.
Second: It is a great way for those that do the traveling to share their experiences with their community and have bragging rights.
And last but not least: Travelogues are a great way to get travel tips and ideas for YOUR next recreation vacation.
We’ve had presentations featuring recreation vacations from all over the world including Italy, The Galapagos Islands, Africa, and Iceland. These travel adventures have been by plane, train, boat, foot, motorcycle, and bicycle. We have heard about treks to faraway mountains across the globe and hikes to the tops of 14ers in our own backyard.
All travelogue presentations, unless otherwise specified, take place:
7 – 8:30pm
Doors open at 6:30pm
Cash bar available with beer, wine and soft drinks
MARCH TRAVELOGUE WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21:
Featuring Mayor P.T. Wood on classic desert river trips
P.T. Wood has rowed many rivers and remarkable sections of rivers including the Yampa, Gates of Ladore, Desolation, Ruby Horsethief/Westwater, Cataract Canyon and the Grand Canyon. He will share stories and a great slideshow featuring parts of the desert that are only accessible by river.
APRIL TRAVELOGUE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11:
Featuring Alex Drummond on the 40th anniversary of the first crossing of Colorado on skis
Travel with Alex Drummond forty years back in ski history when he and two other men made the first ski crossing of Colorado in a continuous 490-mile line from Durango to the Medicine Bow Range west of Fort Collins in spring 1978. Hear and see how they traveled on skinny skis, navigated by maps and compass alone, kept their packs ultralight, and enriched their mental adventure by imagining Ice Age nomads following them one day behind. Alex is a Colorado native living in Salida since 2011 and remains an avid outdoorsman.
